No difference in fetus and live births comparing ICSI to non-ICSI IVF’s.

ISCI - Intra-Cellular Sperm Injection

In this research they looked at ISCI vs non-ICSI IVF cycles. They looked at 70,000 IVF cycles over an 11 year period. ISCI is Intra-Cellular Sperm Injection. As you can maybe see in the image they take 1 sperm (from tube on the left) and directly inject it to the egg, thus guaranteeing fertilization. One hesitation around this procedure was that it would increase birth defects because you are taking a sperm that looks good instead of letting natural selection choose which sperm was “fit” enough to fertilize the egg. According to this research no discernible diferences were noted in pregnancy outcomes, the malformations among the miscarriages, birth weight and assigned sex, between the two groups.
