Using acupuncture to help in stroke recovery specific to difficulty swallowing.

In this research they looked at people who had a stroke and were experienced post-stroke dysphasia (difficulty swallowing) The control group was regular post-stroke swallowing training versus those that did the same with electro-acupuncture added. The acupuncture group experienced more “improved cerebral microcirculation and conduction velocity, enhanced the motor function of swallowing muscles, and promoted the recovery of swallowing function” than the control group. The caveat here is that this was performed in an in-patient treatment centre and so acupuncture was done 5/week.
