Twin Babies
Because of the expense, time involved and difficulties of the ART process some women hope for twins. In this research review they looked at 111 studies and over 800,000 pregnancies! They compared ART (assisted reproductive technology) twin pregnancies to natural twin pregnancies. The ART twin pregnancies are at a higher risk of preterm birth, hypertensive disorders in pregnancy, gestational diabetes, and caesarean delivery compared with non-ART twins. The ART babies themselves also were at significantly increased risk of congenital malformations, birthweight discordance, respiratory distress syndrome and neonatal intensive care unit admission compared with non-ART twins.
